The author investigated clinically and radiographically the 57 children, who have
mesiodens, aging from 3 years to 12 years 2 months among the children who had
visited the Dept. of Pedodontics, Seoul National University Hospital.
The following results were obtained.
1. The mesiodentes were more frequent in male than in maxilla, and more freguent in
maxilla than in mandible.
2. The mesiodentes which erupted into oral cavity were 53.1 percent, and upright
mesiodentes were 75.3 percent.
3. The shapes of mesiodentes were as follows:
Conical shape was 56.8 percent, round shape was 17.3 percent, tuberculated shape was
14. 8 percent, incisor-like shape was 6,2 percent, and canine-like shape was 4.9 percent.
4. The relationship between mesiodentes and neighboring teeth and the complications
which mesiodentes caused were as follows: non-specific influence was 48.2 percent,
delayed eruption of neighboring tooth was 16.5 percent, crown mtatien of neigtlboring
tooth was 11.8 percent, median diastema was 10.5 percent, angulation of neighboring
tooth axis was 3.5 percent, crowding of neighboring tooth was 2.4 percent, root
underdevelopment of neiȣboring tooth was 2.4 percent, and the associated lesion with
mesiodens did net exist.
